Rwanda has approved the cultivation and export of Cannabis for medical and commercial purposes.
The Rwandan Cabinet approved “regulatory guidelines on cultivating, processing and export of therapeutic crops” on 12th October even as the use of cannabis remains illegal in the country.
The government is targeting to grow its export earnings from the global cannabis market which is valued at 345 billion dollars.
Cannabis is believed to be the world’s most valuable cash crop from the absolute value perspective with an acre of Marijuana yielding up to ten million dollars.
Analysts say that the goverment’s latest stance causes confusion and will require an amendment of the Penal code as well as public sensitization in order to protect the society from abuse of the drug.
