There was drama yesterday when Deputy President Ruto was heckled by a section of the crowd that was chanting President Uhuru’s name as his supporters [ Ruto’s ] engaged in a shouting match with them.
Nyeri town Member of Parliament Wambugu Ngunjiri ,who is one of Ruto’s sharpest critics had made his way to Ruto’s meeting with his supporters , and remained in the crowd as he silently followed the speeches.
As the Deputy President was about to conclude his remarks, he however acknowledged Wambugu’s presence and appeared to have wanted to allow the Nyeri Member of Parliament to address his constituents.
“Mheshimiwa Ngunjiri unataka kuongea?”, Ruto had asked. The crowd however jeered and booed in apparent disapproval of the area MP who is a loyal adherent of President Kenyatta.
Ruto on reading the mood of the crowd went ahead to blast the first term Member of Parliament.
“Kuna mtu naona ataenda nyumbani. Watu wa Nyeri mshaamua?”
MP Ngunjiri has on numerous occasions attacked Deputy President Ruto and his brand of politics which he has termed as retrogressive.
Ngunjiri is on record admonishing the wheelbarrow donations to the Youth arguing that the deputy president is playing politics as he is in government and has the power to change the fortunes of the youth at the present.
“Let him [Ruto] not lie to us that he will help the youth after 2022. He is the deputy president and is firmly in government.”
The deputy president is on a three day offensive in the President’s vote rich Mt Kenya region.
